AOPA UK Privacy Policy & Terms of Use

AOPA UK is committed to protecting your privacy and promises only to use information collected about you in accordance with our Privacy Policy below:

Who We Are

Any personal information provided to or gathered by us is controlled by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association ("AOPA UK", "We", "Us") the trading name of the British Light Aviation Centre Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 874355), with a registered office at 50a Cambridge Street, London, SW1V 4QQ. We are a not for profit organisation.

What Information We Collect

When you place an Order or otherwise interact with the AOPA UK Website, we may ask you for certain information and you may submit personal data to Us (for example your name, phone number, postal address, email address, contact and bank / credit card details). We may also record which products you are interested in and which products you purchase as well as customer traffic patterns and site use.

Some examples of how information may be collected by us:

Information You Provide Us: we receive and store information that you submit when using our website or that you provide us in any other way (for example by email or telephone). This information may be provided when ordering from us (via our website or by telephone); joining AOPA UK as a member; searching our website; entering competitions; accessing your account; querying order status; or by submitting text/photo/video reviews of us and our products.

Information Automatically Provided: we may receive, process and store certain information whenever you interact with our website. Like many websites, we use "cookies" (see below) and obtain certain information automatically when your Web browser accesses the AOPA UK website. Information automatically received by us includes the IP address that your computer uses to connect to the internet; your computer, browser, operating system and internet connection details; purchase history (which we may aggregate with other shoppers to analyse sales); clickstream/path analysis of your journey through our website; products you searched for. We may also use software tools to measure and collect session information, length of visits to certain pages, repeat visits and page interaction information (such as clicks).

How We Use This Information

Information is kept securely in accordance with our internal security policy and may be used to:

  • Process and deliver your Order;
  • Provide Customer Support services to you;
  • Provide you with an up to date, efficient, and reliable service;
  • Organise and Manage Membership and Membership Services
  • Help prevent fraud (eg. we may check payment card details with our credit agency, who may keep a record of that information, and reserve the right to refuse Orders on that basis. Your credit rating can be checked for a nominal fee with the main UK agencies Equifax and Experian);
  • Open and run your AOPA UK customer account;
  • Administer prize draws;

By making an Order and/or submitting your data to us you agree to this use.

Data Security

Your safety is assured because AOPA UK uses the latest security measures to protect your details when you shop with us. We use 128-bit SSL Software to encrypt your credit/debit card information when you pay for an order using our secure payment service which is operated by Barcalys.

Who Else May See Your Data

In order to complete your order we may need to disclose some of your information to our delivery partners.

If you order personalised products which are made to order based on information that you provide, then we will need to provide this information (including delivery details) to our manufacturers for the purpose of creating the personalised product to your specification.

Within AOPA UK, other than for membership administration pruposes, we may disclose some of your information to other appointed members within the Association in order to enhance membership services to you, e.g. AOPA Regional Representatives, AOPA Mentors, AOPA MWG Members. You may request that your information is not made available for this purpose by contacting AOPA UK Office by email or telephone.

If you order/book attendance at an AOPA UK Event we may need to disclose some of your details to the Organisers of the event.

Communications - AOPA UK

From time to time, AOPA UK may email its' current or recently expired memberships in order to gather feedback on their membership experience. Any feedback gathered may be used for the development of membership services and expand membership. If you do receive such an email you are not obliged to respond in any way, your feedback will be de-personalised for any further use and you may request that you do not receive any further emails for this purpose.

You may also receive confirmation emails from AOPA UK when you complete on-line forms on aopa.co.uk or after you have contacted the AOPA UK Office.

Communications - 3rd Party

AOPA UK will not pass your information on to third parties unless you give us your consent - either at the time of providing the information to us, or previously if we have already received consent from you.

Cookies

In Order to improve our website service we may use a device known as a 'cookie'. Cookies are a means by which information relating to your Internet activity (such as whether you have visited AOPA UK before) is recorded and used by us to improve AOPA UK and the products and services available to you.

If you do not wish for us to use cookies when you use the AOPA UK website please adjust your Internet browser settings to not accept cookies. The Help option on the menu bar of your web browser should explain you how to do this. Please note that cookies allow you to take full advantage of the services we provide through the AOPA UK website and so we recommend that you leave them turned on.

AOPA UK will not knowingly use cookies other than those that will improve the performance of the website in your browser, or your shopping experience if you use the AOPA UK webshop- "the pilot store online".

We will not knowingly allow other companies, called third-party ad servers or ad networks, to serve advertisements within our web pages. We do NOT provide any personally identifiable customer information to these advertisers or third-party websites.

These Terms and Conditions shall apply to Your use of the website located at www.aopa.co.uk and/or www.aopa.co.uk/thepilotstore/

By using an AOPA UK Site You agree to be bound by the terms and conditions set out below. If You do not wish to be bound by these terms and conditions, You should not use any AOPA UK Site.

We may change these Terms and Conditions from time to time and so you should check these regularly. Your use of an AOPA UK Site will be deemed an acceptance of the terms existing at that time.

1. Definitions

"You" means you, the user of the AOPA UK Site and "Your" shall be interpreted accordingly. "We/Us" means Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association ("AOPA UK") the trading name of the British Light Aviation Centre Ltd., a not for profit organisation Registered in England and Wales. Company Number 874355, Registered Address 50a Cambridge Street, London SW1V 4QQ, "Our" shall be interpreted accordingly.

"AOPA UK Site" shall have the meaning as set out above. "User Information" means the personal details, which may be provided by You to Us via the AOPA UK Site. "Users" means the users of the AOPA UK Site collectively and/or individually as the context admits. "Website" means a site on the World Wide Web.

2. Acceptable Use

You agree that any use by You of the AOPA UK Site shall be in accordance with the following conditions:

2.1 You will not post or transmit through the AOPA UK Site any defamatory, threatening, obscene, harmful, pornographic or otherwise illegal material or material which would violate or infringe in any way upon our rights or those of others (including intellectual property rights, rights of confidentiality, or rights of privacy) or cause distress or inconvenience. You must not express opinions that are vulgar, crude, sexist, racist, unproven or unfounded allegations (especially of wrongdoing) or otherwise offensive. Always treat other Users with respect.

2.2 You must not upload, post, or otherwise transmit any content that includes any of the following inappropriate content:

a) Any personal information belonging to another person, such as full name, address, phone number, email address;
b) Spam, such as advertisements for other web sites and services, or other commercial solicitation; chain letters, pyramid schemes, polls or petitions;
c) Flooding the contact boards or forms with excessive posts, meaningless posts, posts unrelated to the topic or padding posts;
d) Posting or transmitting any information or software containing a virus, worm, Trojan horse, or other damaging or destructive component;
e) Posting a link directing users to any information or content that, if posted on the Site would constitute a violation of the Guidelines or Terms of Use.
AOPA UK is not responsible for the content of any third party websites and users use of any hypertext links posted on the Site at their own risk.
f) Attacks on another user in such a way as to incite or perpetuate arguments or conflict; creating usernames to attack other users' identities;
impersonating other individuals,falsely representing one's identity or qualifications; posts made under secondary user names or other aliases for the
purpose of either endorsing or denigrating others; posts that breach any participant's privacy by including name, address, phone, email address, or any
other identifying information.
g) Include URLs of third party websites which may contain offensive or illegal material
h) Postings that break the law, or encourage/support breaking the law. This includes libel,contempt of court and breach of copyright.
i) Discussions regarding active UK court cases

2.3 You must not evade bans or suspensions or otherwise disregard directions from moderators or administrators.

2.4 You agree not to use the Site (or any part of it) to:

a) Solicit personal information, email addresses, contact information, passwords or other personally identifying information
b) Solicit participation in public discussion, debate, comment or activity outside this Site;
c) Provide false or misleading information about yourself or your business, or create a false identity or use or attempt to use another’s account or identity
(including for the purposes of accessing AOPA UK Membership functionality – see Section 10).

2.5 We reserve the right to manage the postings on the AOPA UK Site and Membership areas to provide an orderly presentation of this information. To effectively manage the site, AOPA UK may designate employees, members or others to act as moderators and administrators for the site ("Moderators"). These Moderators are the only representatives of AOPA UK that are authorised to manage the AOPA UK Site and Membership areas.

2.6 You will not post or otherwise make available on the AOPA UK Site any material, which You do not own without the express permission of the owner of the material.

2.7 You will not copy, download, reproduce, republish, frame, broadcast, transmit in any manner whatsoever, any material on the AOPA UK Site except as is strictly necessary for Your own personal non-commercial home use.

2.8 You will not access the AOPA UK Site by automated means or otherwise for the purposes of scraping, extracting, or otherwise obtaining any material from the AOPA UK Site for use within a third party Website or application.

2.9 You will abide by the specific rules of any competition or promotion that You participate in on or via the AOPA UK Site.

2.10 You will not do anything that affects the operability or security of the AOPA UK Site or causes unreasonable inconvenience or offence or disruption to AOPA UK Staff or Members.

3. Third Party Websites

3.1 You acknowledge and agree that We are not responsible for the availability of any third party Websites or material You access through the AOPA UK Site.

3.2 We do not endorse and shall not be held responsible or liable for any content, advertising, products or services on or available from such Websites or material.

3.3 Any dealings between You and any third party advertisers or merchants found on or via the AOPA UK Site, including payment for and delivery of products, services and any other terms, conditions, warranties or representations associated with such dealings, are made between You and the relevant advertiser or merchant. Therefore, We are not responsible or liable for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as the result of any such dealings. Where You purchase goods or services directly from Us, section 11 of these terms and conditions will apply.

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 All copyright, trade marks and all other intellectual property rights in all material or content supplied as part of the AOPA UK Site shall remain at all times vested in Us or Our licensors. You are permitted to use this material or content only as expressly authorised in writing by Us or Our licensors. You will not, and You will not assist or facilitate any third party to, copy, reproduce, transmit, distribute, frame, commercially exploit or create derivative works of such material or content.

4.2 If You become aware of any such distribution or commercial exploitation, You agree to notify Us immediately.

4.3 You acknowledge that by posting materials on the AOPA UK Site You grant to Us and Our licensors and assigns an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty free, worldwide licence to use the materials both within the AOPA UK Site and in any other manner. The licence extends to copying, distributing, broadcasting, and otherwise transmitting, and adapting and editing the materials.

5. Liability for and information provided on the AOPA UK Site

5.1 Material which is posted on any public or member area of the Site is written by Users and We are not responsible for and do not endorse such material. We reserve the right to monitor the contributions made and may respond to or comment upon communications made by You and edit, refuse to post, or remove any content from the bulletin boards and chat forums in our absolute discretion. No failure to remove particular material constitutes an endorsement or acceptance of it by Us.

5.2 We will not be held responsible or liable for the content, accuracy, timing or reliability of any information or statements contained within the AOPA UK Site, or for statements, advice and/or opinions made or given by Users on any public or member area of the Site (except as required by law). If You have any claim arising from the actions or statements of another User, You agree to pursue such a claim only against that User and not from Us.

5.3 We will endeavour to provide the AOPA UK Site using all reasonable care. Except as required by law, We will not be responsible or liable for the quality, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose of the AOPA UK Site and do not promise that the material contained in the AOPA UK Site, or any of the functions contained in the AOPA UK Site or its server will operate without interruption or delay or will be error free, free of viruses or bugs or is compatible with any other software or material.

5.4 We will be liable for any fraudulent misrepresentations We make and for any death or personal injury caused by Our negligence. We will not be responsible or liable to You for any other loss or damage that You or any third party may suffer as a result of using or in connection with Your use of the AOPA UK Site.

6. Safety

We give Our ongoing commitment to ensuring that You can use the AOPA UK Site with confidence.

When using the AOPA UK Site, in particular any any public or member area of the Site, You should always take the following precautions:

6.1 keep Your identity private. Do not give out Your full name, postal address, telephone number, e-mail address or any other information (other than that specifically requested by Us), that could help someone discover Your actual identity;
6.2 do not reply to any messages that are hostile, rude or inappropriate, or in any way make You feel uncomfortable.

7. Indemnity

If you are a business User, You agree to indemnify Us, and/or any of Our affiliates and Our and their officers, directors and employees, immediately on demand, against all claims, liability, damages, costs and expenses, including legal fees, arising out of any breach of these terms and conditions by You or any other liabilities arising out of Your use of the AOPA UK Site.

8. Termination

We reserve the right immediately to terminate Your use of the AOPA UK Site if You breach or We have reasonable grounds to believe that You are likely to breach these terms and conditions or You otherwise engage in conduct which We determine in Our sole discretion to be unacceptable.

10. AOPA UK Registration


Section 10 applies to visitors to aopa.co.uk who wish to access content that requires registration, in addition to the terms and conditions which precede and follow this section. Attention is drawn in particular to paragraph 2 (acceptable use) and paragraph 5 (liability for information provided on the AOPA UK Site) above.

10.1 Registration etc

In order to participate in parts of AOPA UK website, registration is required. You must Register in order to access non-public areas. You may register as a non-member, but will only have access to public areas of the website until you become a member. To register, you are required to provide us with accurate and complete details as requested. You must also choose a user name and password. On registration you will be given a basic account status. Existing AOPA UK Members should request the AOPA office to upgrade their account to Member status. New members will normally be be pre-registered by AOPA UK when you join. 

10.2 User name and password

AOPA UK requires that your user name is your First and Last name, where your first name may be shortened if that is the normal form you use. If your user name is not unique you may add a middle initial/name or numbers after you last name. Your email address must be unique to you. You must set a password of choice, which we recommend achieves a strong level of strength. URLs, Domain Names, underscores, full stops and any of the following characters -=[];'#,./!"£$%^&*()+{}:@~? must not be used.

When you first register you will be sent an email with a link to confirm your email address is genuine and that you agree to being registered. When you have confirmed your email address you will be able to login but only with public privileges until an AOPA Administrator validates and enables your registration at a higher level. The AOPA Administrator may alter your details if they do not meet our Terms and Conditions.You will be advised by email if this happens. When your registration has been approved, you will be sent a further email, after which time when you login you will have access to AOPA Member areas of the AOPA UK website.  

If you cease to become an AOPA UK member your login privileges will be reduced to public, but your registration details may be kept in our database. These will not be shared with anyone outside AOPA UK without your permission.

10.3 Termination or suspension

We may suspend or terminate a user's AOPA UK registration if these terms and conditions are breached, in particular paragraph 2 (acceptable use).

11. General

11.1 Invalidity etc

If any court or regulator decides that any provision of these terms and conditions is invalid or otherwise unenforceable, such provisions shall be severed and deleted from these terms and conditions and the remainder of these terms and conditions shall continue to have full force and effect.

11.2 Governing Law

These terms and conditions and the AOPA UK Site are governed by English law. Disputes can be dealt with by the English courts.

11.3 Third Party Rights

These terms and conditions apply between Us and Users. No other person is entitled to benefit under these Terms and Conditions.
